There are so many people debating whether or not to take the PMP exam now or wait until the exam changes on December 16, 2019. Well, it is late August 2019 everyone and I feel that you should take it. You have nearly 120 days to pass the PMP. Hey I believe in you everyone. If I can pass the CSM and ITIL in less than 14 days, certainly you can shine in 120 days!
Here are my 5 reasons why you should the PMP exam right now!
You have practice test materials
Right now there is an abundance of FREE PMP online simulator, flashcards and study guides. There is usually a 90-120 day wait for certicredible PMP prep materials.
120 days is more than enough time
120 days is 1/3 of a year. That is more than enough time to read and re-read the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), submit your PMP application and study for the exam. YOU CAN DO IT!
120 days to use your newly minted PMP
It is August. You get your PMP. You can start building your resume way before the December 16, 2019 change. Remember the triple constraint of time, cost and scope.
The PMP requirements may change
Whenever the Project Management Institute (PMI) changes anything the requirements change. I will give you an example. When I was renewing my PMP the first time, PMI changed its recertification guidelines from education to education and giving back. Since I was unclear about the new guidelines, I recertified under the old guideline window. When I recertified the second time, the giving back guidelines were 3 years old and I had a better understanding of what was expected of me.
The same thing here. Right now in August, you know what the PMP expectations are. When the exam changes in December, you won’t.
Great end of year personal achievement
Achieving your PMP would be a great way to end this year. You can post this on your annual review. There are so many people who dream about taking the PMP, take the PMP and fail, and get discouraged along the way. Your passing the PMP is a momentous personal and professional achievement. Be proud of it.
So there you have it. My 5 reasons why you should study and pass the PMP right now instead of waiting around for the new changes.
