Nineteenth Google Cloud Jumpstart Session Recap : Interview Advice

posted in: GCP Jumpstart | 1

Back-to-back Google Cloud meetings! I had my GCP program manager meeting on Friday and my GCP Jumpstart mentor meeting today! I have been busy but I take career development seriously so I am ready.

Today’s meeting is all about interview advice. First, she starts off reading my Friday email since she was traveling. I start discussing my interview feedback where the recruiter tells me that the company feels like I am a better manager than data architect. I am like that’s interesting because I’ve done a literal whiteboard in the interview.

However, my mentor has given me some advice regarding this and interviewing with people not assigned to your department. She mentions that I should ask about management style, workplace culture, etc. That is a great idea. I will incorporate these questions next time because that last interview run with the person from the warehouse threw me.

She also wanted to review my resume since I mentioned that the GCP program manager would give me a follow-up session this Friday. The more the merrier especially since I wanted to get the right job which took the right resume. I sent my resume along with two jobs at her company that interested me. Finally, I mentioned meeting with someone she recommended during our meeting.

I felt like today’s mentor meeting was successful because I sent my Friday GCP program manager email. I will email the GCP program manager today’s mentor meeting summary either Tuesday or Wednesday.
